What I capture

I leave remote cameras in place to capture wildlife behaviour that would otherwise go unseen. Many encounters run far longer in the original recordings than in the published videos.

A wallaroo looks at its own reflection in a mirror set up beside a creek

Wildlife experiments

Creative field experiments that capture how wild animals respond to unfamiliar objects. My wildlife mirror encounters have attracted millions of views worldwide.

Natural behaviour

Feeding, drinking, curiosity, sparring and social interactions, filmed as they happen with no one there to disturb them.

A spotted-tailed quoll crosses a creek bank at night, filmed in infrared

Nocturnal wildlife

Infrared footage of the animals that come out after dark, from marsupials to elusive night visitors.

Birds & reptiles

From kookaburras and eagles to pythons and water dragons, my cameras capture Australia’s remarkable birdlife and reptiles in their natural environments.

Close, natural and unscripted

Because the cameras sit quietly in place, animals come close and behave naturally. That gives productions intimate, authentic footage that is hard to get any other way.

Looking for a particular species or behaviour? Tell me what you need. If I have it, I’ll send you samples.

About

Behind the Cameras

The story behind Epic Aussie Encounters

I grew up in a small Aboriginal community on the Tiwi Islands in northern Australia, where wildlife and the natural world were part of everyday life.

That early connection with nature stayed with me. I went on to spend more than a decade working in parks and wildlife conservation, from handling crocodiles and snakes in northern Australia to helping train rangers in anti-poaching work in Southeast Asia.

Working so closely with wildlife has only made me more curious about the behaviour we don’t normally get to see.

I’ve used remote cameras for years in wildlife monitoring, research and anti-poaching work. Today, they’re at the heart of Epic Aussie Encounters. I use them to capture natural wildlife behaviour, often leaving cameras in the bush for weeks or months to discover what happens when nobody is around. I also develop unusual wildlife experiments, such as introducing mirrors, to see how animals respond to something they’ve never encountered before.

The best part is never knowing what you’re going to find when you check the cameras. Sometimes it’s nothing. Other times it’s something extraordinary that you never could have planned.

And that’s what keeps me coming back.
